For our new Wilco cover story, we spoke to the band’s master of guitars, Nels Cline. Unfortunately, technical difficulties marred much of the audio. But here’s a little taste of the conversation:

“(Wilco) The Song” is a blast. The groove behind it almost has a My Bloody Valentine aspect to it. But there’s also a John Cale sort of thing going on.

What are your favorite Wilco songs?

“Shouldn’t Be Ashamed,” “Dash 7”, “The Lonely 1,” there are so many. “The Future Age”…all of which are wonderful to play live and listen to on record. “My Darling.” I really like “At Least That’s What You Said.” I love “Radio Cure,” but it’s not the kind of song you break out on a Saturday night gig. You know what i mean? It’s a bit of a downer. And I love playing John’s song, “It’s Just That Simple.” I like it when John gets up there and does his thing.
