It looks like Velvet Underground collaborator Nico will be the latest musician to get the biopic treatment.
As Variety reports,ย Nico, 1988 will focus on the final year of the Andy Warhol muse’s life. It will begin with her 1987 solo tour in Europe as she recovers from heroin addiction. It will presumably lead up to her 1988 death while biking in Ibiza.
It’s set to be directed by Italian directorย Susanna Nicchiarelli, and will star Danish actress/ singer-songwriter Trine Dyrholm, who is set to perform versions of Nico’s songs from the time.
โMost people think, as Andy Warhol once said, that after her experience with Velvet Underground and the Factory โand after having had sex with most of the rock stars of those years โ Nico simply โbecame a fat junkieโ and disappeared,โ Nicchiarelli said in a statement. โBut is this how her life really went?โ
The film will start filming in early November in Italy, Belgium and Nico’s native Germany.
Nico will be the latest musician to immortalized in a biopic, with Brian Wilson, Miles Davis and Nina Simone being some of the latest music icons to be portrayed on screen.
