Perry Farrell’s Wife Addresses Abrupt End of Jane’s Addiction Show After Fight With Dave Navarro

Dave Navarro had a pretty bad time yesterday in the wake of an on-stage fight that has Jane’s Addiction fans buzzing. At a Boston concert that ended abruptly Friday night, singer Perry Farrell punched Dave Navarro while on stage and in the middle of a performance of “Ocean Size”. Video footage of the assault has been circulating around social media. Now, it looks like Perry Farrell’s wife, Etty, has lent her two cents on the situation in a lengthy social media post.

“Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members,” Etty said in the caption of an Instagram post, which featured video footage of Farrell’s attack on Navarro.

Etty went on to note that Farrell’s frustration “had been mounting, night after night” and cumulated with issues he was having with the volume of his fellow bandmates’ instruments, which he believed was drowning out his voice. Etty also alleged that Farrell had tinnitus and a sore throat. The culmination of his illnesses, the volume of the band, and a few heckling fans in the front row resulted in Farrell snapping on Navarro, according to Etty.

Perry Farrell’s wife also went on to accuse bassist Eric Avery of assaulting Farrell backstage and noted that her husband had a “breakdown” afterward.

Why Did Perry Farrell Punch Dave Navarro?

While performing “Ocean Eyes” at the Boston concert last night, Farrell became visibly agitated. He proceeded to approach Navarro on stage and ram his shoulder into the guitarist. Navarro looked visibly surprised as Farrell continued to yell at him, ending with a solid punch to Navarro’s shoulder. Video footage clearly shows Navarro saying “What the f**k?” as stagehands and Avery begin to restrain Farrell and push him backstage. Eventually, Navarro left the stage. The set ended after only 11 songs.

It isn’t abundantly clear what happened to set Farrell off. If Etty’s claims are true, the attack on Navarro could have been the culmination of overstimulation and frustration over the direction the concert was taking. For all we know, it had nothing to do with Navarro at all: he just happened to be there.

However, fans on social media aren’t so convinced of Etty’s explanation of her husband’s behavior.

“I say this with care: stop enabling your husband,” one fan commented on Etty’s post. “Perry clearly needs help with whatever ailment is impairing his physical and/or mental health.”

“This post is deranged gaslighting,” said another.

As of this posting, neither Navarro nor Farrell have made statements about what happened last night. It’s also unclear if the Jane’s Addiction reunion tour will continue.
