Priscilla Presley Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Elvis on the 47th Anniversary of His Passing

Even though Priscilla Presley and her ex-husband divorced well before his death on August 16, 1977, the former rock star wife still thinks fondly of her late ex. On the 47th anniversary of the King’s death yesterday, Priscilla Presley honored his memory with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.

The 79-year-old actress and businesswoman took to social media to reflect on nearly half a century since Elvis Presley died from a heart attack in 1977.

“47 years and not a day goes by that I don’t think of you🌹” Priscilla Presley captioned the tribute post, accompanied by a video edit of a black and white photo of Elvis when he was young against an audio clip of “Always On My Mind”. The video ends with the caption: “Elvis Aaron Presley, January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977.”

Elvis’ rendition of “Always On My Mind” was recorded in March of 1972, mere weeks after the pair had chosen to separate that February.

Priscilla and Elvis Presley Relationship Timeline

While Elvis was stationed in West Germany in 1959 during his tenure with the US Army, he met Priscilla (then Priscilla Beaulieu) when she was 14 years old. He was 24 years old at the time. Their relationship, which was covered in the recent Sofia Coppola film Priscilla, sparked controversy due to the fact that Priscilla was a minor when they first began their relationship.

From there, the two developed a 13-year relationship, though the early years were mostly spent in a long-distance relationship. In 1963, Priscilla moved to Memphis to live with Elvis’ parents and attend school. They were married in an intimate Las Vegas ceremony in 1967 with just 14 people in attendance.

In 1968, Priscilla gave birth to the couple’s only daughter, Lisa Marie. Unfortunately, their relationship was rocky shortly after the birth of their child. They eventually divorced in 1972 but remained friends until Elvis passed away from hypertensive heart disease in 1977.

Following Elvis’ passing, Priscilla never remarried. However, she was in relationships with Mike Stone, Robert Kardashian, Marco Antonio Garcia, and others throughout the years. Priscilla gave birth to her second child, Navarone Garibaldi, in 1987.

After Elvis’ death, his daughter Lisa Marie became his sole beneficiary. Lisa Marie passed away in 2023 at the age of 54 from cardiac arrest.
