Why Carrie Underwood Feels Like Simon Cowell “Put a Target On My Back”
As the Top 14 contestants prepared for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame episode on American Idol, first-time judge Carrie Underwood reminisced on her own Top 12 night.
Following the season 4 winner’s stunning Top 12 performance of “Alone” by Heart, Simon Cowell made a bold prediction. Not only did he believe that Underwood was “the girl to beat” for season 4, the notoriously prickly record executive declared that she would sell more records than any previous champ.
“At the time, I thought, ‘This is amazing,’ and then about five seconds later, I thought, ‘I have a target on my back. Now everybody’s gonna hate me,’” said the “Before He Cheats” songstress. “Just because that’s a such a bold tip me, you told me I was going to win the show. I remember thinking people might not like me after that, and being really nervous.”
