Carrie Underwood not only competed on the fourth season of American Idol, but she won the show. Although launching her career, the singer went far beyond the show as she sold over 85 million albums and won several awards. Her last album to hit shelves was back in 2022 when she recorded Denim & Rhinestones. While it has been two decades since Underwood appeared on American Idol, the singer is returning as a judge. And with fans excited to see her on the show, she is already leaving her mark as she and Ryan Seacrest surprised an upcoming contestant with a platinum ticket.

Although American Idol is scheduled to return in spring 2025, judges Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan are already hard at work. Filming the audition process, the judges received the chance to meet an upcoming contestant named Filo. While fans have no idea what his audition looked like, Underwood promised he was “amazing.” And wanting to ring in the new year with a few surprises, Seacrest and Underwood shocked Filo with an amazing gift.
With Filo truly surprised over the gift, he found himself able to skip the first round of Hollywood Week. Each season, the judges are given three Platinum Tickets. Having the power to skip the first round, the judges keep them close, only handing them out to singers they believe have what it takes to be the next American Idol.

While Filo thanked Underwood and Seacrest for the amazing gift, he will still face off against several aspiring singers who aim to find their place amongst the winners of American Idol. Outside of watching singers fight for their dream, the newest season marked the return of Underwood.
Spending the last two decades expanding her career, Underwood seemed to be loving her time on American Idol. And with the season still a few months away, fans are getting just a little taste of what the new season might look like.
