Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey revealed the news on social media. He revealed that he, along with Paul McCartney’s son, James McCartney, and John Lennon’s son, Sean Ono Lennon, collaborated on a new song titled “Rip Off.”
The song is featured on Mantra of the Cosmos’ forthcoming album. The supergroup includes Zak, as well as Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder and Bez. Ride’s Andy Bell is also in the supergroup.
On “Rip Off” vocals are shared between Sean, James, and Shaun.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Zak shut down the idea that the song could be viewed as a mini Beatles reunion.
“No it’s not,” Zak told the outlet. “It’s like Mantra of the Cosmos with them in it. It’s Sean of the Cosmos and James of the Cosmos, it’s still my band.”
Following the suggestion that the men needed George Harrison’s son, Dhani Harrison, to complete the picture, Zak bristled, stating, “No I don’t. Why do I?”
As for how his famous father feels about his latest venture, Zak said Ringo “loves” Mantra of the Cosmos. In fact, Zak said, his dad “wants me to remix all his early singles like Mantra.”
The Beatles’ Offspring’s Previous Collaboration
This isn’t the first time The Beatles’ offspring has teamed up. Back in 2024, Sean and James collaborated on a track titled “Primrose Hill.” Both men wrote and composed the song.
As for what inspired the track, at the time, James wrote on Instagram, “I had a vision as a child in Scotland, on what was a lovely summers day.”
“Letting go, I saw my true love and saviour in my mind’s eye,” he continued. “‘Primrose Hill’ is about getting the ball rolling with me & finding this person.”
