The Rolling Stones Honored for 1 Billion Streams in the U.K.

The Rolling Stones’ new studio album, Hackney Diamonds, has enjoyed plenty of chart success during its first week of release, and now it’s helped the legendary British rockers gain another impressive milestone in their home country.

The band has become the longest-active artist to receive a BRIT Billion Award for amassing a billion streams in the U.K. According to BRITS.co.uk, the honor recognizes artists who have accumulated one billion streams from tracks on which they have appeared either as the principal performer or as a featured artist, as credited by the U.K.’s Official Charts Company.

The Rolling Stones are the 36th artist to earn a BRIT Billion Award. Others include Queen, ABBA, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Sam Smith, Coldplay, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Lana Del Rey, Lewis Capaldi, and Ellie Goulding. Ed Sheeran is the only artist to have received a special Gold version of the award, for accruing more than 10 billion streams in the U.K.

Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones also announced that Hackney Diamonds has topped the album charts in more than 14 countries around the world. Celebrating that achievement, the band posted a note on its social media sites that read, “Thank you to everyone for listening,” and asked fans to share their favorite tracks in the comments section.

Among the other countries where the album debuted at No. 1 are Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Following its release on October 20, Hackney Diamonds not only debuted at No. 1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart but its also been certified Silver for amassing 60,000 units in the country.

As previously reported, Hackney Diamonds debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S., marking the band’s 38th album to reach the chart’s top 10, the most in the history of the tally.

In other news, Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood took to his social media sites on Tuesday to mark Halloween by posting a humorous photo of him and bandmate Mick Jagger dressed up for the holiday. The pic shows Jagger dressed as the Grim Reaper, with a skull mask and a dark hood, and Wood next to him sporting some plastic fangs.
