Tim McGraw Reveals Why He Chose to Record “Paper Umbrellas” with Parker McCollum

Tim McGraw originally recorded “Paper Umbrellas” for his 2023 album Standing Room Only. It was a standout track on the album and garnered hundreds of thousands of streams. However, McGraw didn’t release it as a single at the time. Last month, he released a new version of the song featuring Parker McCollum.

After talking about the next month’s rodeo, the show’s hosts asked Tim McGraw to talk about the new song. “Our new single just came out. ‘Paper Umbrellas’ with Parker McCollum,” he said. “It’s off my Standing Room Only Album. It’s one of my favorite records off that album,” he added.

McGraw loved the song when he recorded but apparently felt like it didn’t get enough attention. “I really wanted to get it out there and let everybody hear it,” he said. “When it came time to release the single, I wanted another artist on it, and I like what Parker’s doing and I thought his voice would fit really well with this type of song,” McGraw explained. “It has a real George Strait vibe, and who it’s a big fan of George Strait?” he said of McCollum’s voice. The “Don’t Take the Girl” singer added that the “George Strait vibe” is one of the many things he likes about the young rising star.

“When he agreed to come on board and sing on it, it turned out great, and we thought we’d go with it. We’re off to the races now,” McGraw said of the finished song. The track has already garnered more than 460,000 streams on Spotify.
