First, Usher expressed “how excited” he is for the “Not Like Us” rapper. Next, he shared his words of wisdom.

“The one thing I would say is savor the moment ’cause you get obsessed in trying to build the best performance but you don’t realize that it’s really about enjoying it,” Usher said on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “It might not be perfect, everything may not go exactly the way it’s supposed to but if you are in your mind and like stuck trying to make something perfect you’re not going to look up and smell the flowers.”

While doing that, Usher said, he wants Lamar to tell himself one thing.

“I’m here and I get a chance to have this moment and I’m not going to get it again, I’m not going to get this moment back,” Usher said of what Lamar should work to remember.

“My encouragement to him is to really be present and I hope that he uses the moment well,” he added. “There’s a lot that could be said. There’s a lot to be said for where hip hop has come from. Continuing, Usher added,” “There’s a lot to be said for that young man and how he’s completely been an incredible benchmark for what it is to be an artist.”

At the end of the day, Usher said he’s hoping that Lamar “really maximizes” his big moment.

Kendrick Lamar’s Night at the GRAMMYs

Lamar’s Super Bowl performance, for which he will be joined onstage by SZA, will come one week after the GRAMMYs.

The rapper won five GRAMMYs. He came out victorious in every category he was nominated in. In all, he wound up walking home with the GRAMMY for Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video, Record Of The Year, and Song Of The Year.

Lamar dedicated his Record of the Year win to Los Angeles amid the devastating wildfires in the city.

“This is my neck of the woods that held me down… since I was in the studio scrapping to write the best raps and all that, in order to do records like these,” he said during his acceptance speech. “So I can’t give enough thanks to these places that I rolled around since high school. And most importantly, the people and the families out in the Palisades and Altadena. This is a true testament that we can continue to restore this city. We gonna keep rocking.”
