While many artists learn about the music industry the hard way, Emmy Russell found herself born into music royalty. With Russell growing up with country legend Loretta Lynn as her grandmother, the singer knew more than enough about how the music industry worked. But even with the singer sharing her amazing talent with Lynn, Russell struggled when it came to her career. And finally taking her first step, the singer watched as she made it into the Top 5 on American Idol. Getting the chance to perform alongside stars like Wynonna Judd, Russell recently showcased her wide range of music when she covered “In Your Love.”

Posting a video to her Instagram page, Russell explained how Colorado helped her become an outdoor person. Showing her surroundings, the singer found the perfect spot to sit down. And with a gorgeous stream in the background, it appeared to be the right setting for the song. With nothing but a guitar and phone, Russell showcased her stunning voice that seemed to carry hints of Lynn.
Emmy Russell Talks Being Compared To Loretta Lynn
Gaining thousands of likes, fans gushed over the performance, writing, “You keep singing. And keep shining. America may not have chosen you. But you’re bringing a whole new generation of country into life, Emmy. And you already know your songs to sing, and your melodies to bring into the world.” Another person wrote, “You have a beautiful unique voice – and you are very pretty! Colorado is beautiful. The few times I’ve been there, I wanted to stay!”
Often compared to her grandmother, Russell once discussed the comparison with Southern Living. The singer noted how fans put the two in the same category after she performed “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” “I think I’m completely different than my grandma, but someone commented and said, ‘You’re so much like her, because that was such a gutsy song to sing just like so many songs in her time were so gutsy.’ I was like, ‘Oh, wow.’ Maybe she gave me a little truth gene.”
Wondering what it was like for Lynn, Russell concluded, “Was it scary for her like it is for me? I think probably a little less for her. She’s very brave. She’s very brave.”
