Over the weekend, Riley Green performed during the Music City Grand Prix in Nashville. During his set, he tipped his hat to ‘90s country legend Clint Black with a stellar cover of Black’s duet with his wife, “When I Said I Do.” However, Green didn’t just turn in a great cover of a sweet duet. He also brought out Lily Black, Clint and Lisa Hartman-Black’s daughter to sing it with him.
“Since we’re playing love songs, I’m gonna get a very talented, lovely young lady, Miss Lisa Black to come out here,” Green said, introducing his duet partner by her mother’s name. However, he quickly recovered. “Lily Black, come out here and help me sing a little bit. Sorry. I got nervous, I saw your outfit,” he joked, “Earlier, you didn’t have that on. Caught me off guard.”

After a smiling Black joined Green onstage, he told the crowd a little more about her. “Miss Lily Black has become a good friend of mine here recently. We’ve almost practiced this song together,” he said. And, Mrs. Lisa Hartman-Black and Mr. Clint Black are her mom and dad. So, y’all may be familiar with them as well,” he added. “One of the best love songs ever written, we’re gonna try a little bit of it,” he said before they started the song.
Riley Green and Lily Black Cover a ‘90s Classic
Clint Black wrote “When I Said I Do” and released it as the lead single from his 1999 album D’lectrified. The track featured guest vocals from his wife, Lisa Hartman-Black. “When I Said I Do” went to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart for two non-consecutive weeks. Brad Paisley’s “He Didn’t Have to Be” dethroned it after its first week at the top. Then, it returned to the summit the following week. Additionally, it peaked at No. 31 on the Hot 100 chart, giving the Blacks a crossover hit.
“When I Said I Do” became Black’s 13th and final No. 1 single. It was also the only No. 1 for Hartman-Black.
