Steve Miller is featured on a new version of his classic 1976 song “Fly Like an Eagle” that was released on Thursday, February 20, as the latest installment of the Playing for Change organization’s “Song Around the World” series of videos and recordings.

Miller is joined by more than a dozen musicians and singers from five different countries on the song. The release of the track and companion video coincides with the 2025 World Day of Social Justice. The “Song Around the World” series features musicians from across the globe coming together remotely to perform covers of famous tunes.

Among the other artists featured on the new version of “Fly Like an Eagle” are singer/keyboardist Ivan Neville and singer Quiana Lynell from New Orleans; sitarist Prasad Rahane and tabla player Rupak Dhamankar from India; the eight-member choir Roots Gospel Voices of Mississippi; drummer Franklin Vanderbilt from Los Angeles; percussionist Kȧtsica Mayoral from Mexico; kora player Baboulaye Sissokho from Senegal; and charango player Sofia Viola from Argentina. Miller sings and plays guitar on the track.

A Statement from Miller About the “Fly Like an Eagle” Cover
Miller released a statement about the new version of “Fly Like an Eagle” and collaborating with Playing for Change.
“So much is at stake for humanity in today’s world, it is difficult to create a message that is positive and inspirational,” the 81-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer said. “To help unify the world through the power of music is my greatest dream.”
He continued, “Thanks to … all these accomplished artists from five different countries who joined the entire team of Playing for Change to do just that. Performing a new version of ‘Fly Like an Eagle,’ with such talented people from around the world is a humbling experience.”
Miller concluded, “I wish you all peace, love and happiness every day and especially on February 20, 2025, World Day of Social Justice.”
The updated version of “Fly Like an Eagle” features a newly added break in which Steve sings some uplifting lyrics. “I want to send a message to every boy and girl / I want to send a message about the world,” he sings. “Got to build it up, stop tearing it down / Got to build it up, make the world turn ’round.”

“Fly Like an Eagle” originally appeared on the Steve Miller Band’s 1976 album of the same name. The atmospheric tune reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1977.

The Steve Miller Band currently has just one confirmed concert on its 2025 schedule. The show will take place on February 28 at the Lucas Oil Live venue in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
