For shows like American Idol, the prize for winners has changed over the years. While the original winner, Kelly Clarkson, walked away with a cash prize of $1 million, that number drastically declined over the years. Now, a winner will walk away with $250,000. But when it came to The Voice, the number never changed. Since season one, every winner received a cash prize of $100,000

Although a sizable amount of cash, the winner needed to follow the rules placed in the contracts they signed when appearing on the show. If any singer happened to violate the NBC contract, they forfeited the winnings. That was just the start as they could also end up the center of a lawsuit from the network. But for most, they followed the rules and made sure the check cleared.

‘The Voice’ Offered Record Deal

Besides taking home $100,000 for their time on The Voice, each winner also landed a record contract. Although getting money sounded great, the singers wanted the show to help them get their foot in the door. Able to sign a contract with Universal Music Group, the winners were given the opportunity of stardom outside of the show. For Cassadee Blake Pope, her career started when becoming the first female to win The Voice during season 3.

Releasing her first album in 2013 with Frame by Frame, Pope continued to expand her career with records like Stages, Thrive, and Hereditary. She was even nominated for a Grammy Award in 2017 when she performed a duet of “Think of You” with Chris Young.

While winning cash and a record deal sounded great, the main prize came with the exposure The Voice brought. Able to launch their career, each singer had the opportunity to earn millions in royalties and music sales, given the career they produced after The Voice

Don’t miss the season finale of The Voice, airing tonight and tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
