‘American Idol’ Star Triston Harper Opened Up About Family Struggles As A Kid

Although still a young adult, Harper seemed in high spirits to start his life with Reed. While some fans questioned the decision at such a young age, others rallied around him, proving that love conquers all. “My parents were together at 15 and 17, had all 4 of us by 21, and were married 56 wonderful years till my mom recently passed. It can be done! Congrats and best of luck to you both!” Another fan added, “My parents got married when they were 18 and 19 years old. They will be celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary this month. It’s all about the partner you choose, not about peoples opinions. Wishing you all the best. Congratulations.”

Throughout his time on American Idol, Harper never ran from his past and the struggles his family faced. He once revealed, “By the age of 11, my mom was with my stepdad. He was getting very abusive. We had to leave McIntosh and then everything went sideways.” Showing just how bad it got, Harper explained, “The lowest part of my life is when me and my mom had got homeless and were sleeping on the sidewalk. I had just turned 12.”

Going from being homeless to American Idol, Harper insisted, “It makes me happy just thinking about it.” And with a wife and baby on the way, it seems the future is bright for the rising country singer.
