In addition to the announcement of Wake of the Flood‘s 50th-anniversary edition, the debut episode of the eighth season of the podcast, Good Ol’ Grateful Deadcast, was also recently released. The premiere episode focused on Wake of the Flood, which was originally released on October 15, 1973, as well as the iconic 600,000-person Watkins Glen Concert.

Wake of the Flood (50th Anniversary Remaster) will be available on 180-gram black vinyl, a limited edition 12″ vinyl picture disc, a limited edition “coke bottle clear vinyl,” and a Dead.net Exclusive, limited edition “Watermark” Custom Vinyl. The remastered version of Wake of the Flood is produced by Grateful Dead Legacy Manager and Audio Archivist David Lemieux. The remaster also includes a second disc featuring live music from a concert at Northwestern University’s McGaw Memorial Hall in 1973.

According to Brooklyn Vegan, Lemieux released a statement regarding the upcoming remaster. “In early 1973, just before the Grateful Dead performed on February 9, Jerry Garcia recorded demos of the new songs he and Robert Hunter had been creating,” Lemieux said.

“These demos featured Jerry doing the singing and playing, and he presumably shared them with the band members so they could start learning the new songs” Lemieux continued. “Amongst these demos was this beautiful Eyes Of The World, providing the basis of what would become one of the Dead’s most beloved and frequently played songs for the next 20+ years.”
