Is There a Halftime Show During Tonight’s CFP National Championship Game? Full Performance Details

Tonight at 7:30 pm EST, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes for this year’s College Football Playoffs National Championship. Neither the Irish nor the Buckeyes were expected to make it this far in the inaugural 12-team playoff. Although, they surprised the masses and are competing for college football’s biggest honor.

An integral part of these types of games is musical entertainment. Thanks to the NFL’s recent amplification of musical entertainment, it seems the masses are expecting college football to do the exact same. However, that is not the case, as tonight’s game will not feature a celebrity musical guest for the halftime show. But do not fret, as there will be some entertainment to lay your eyes on as both teams take a break.

The CFP Championship’s Halftime Entertainment

Rather than procuring a big-name musician, college football has stayed in touch with its brand. They did this by staying true to their traditions and allowing the Fighting Irish and Buckeye marching bands to perform during the halftime show. It is unknown what songs they will play while on the field, but regardless, it should be a fairly traditional marching band experience.

Even though this might seem a bit minimalistic, it is actually a major addition to the college football playoff championship. Last year, when Michigan and Washington faced off, neither of their marching bands took the field for the halftime show.

Even though a celebrity is not taking the field during halftime, there still is in fact a celebrity who will perform music at the game. Specifically, Grammy-winning R&B artist, Coco Jones will take the field to sing the national anthem. Jones’ accolades include chart-topping success and a Grammy win for her hit song, “ICU.” Furthermore, Jones will return to the Grammys this year thanks to her new single, “Here We Go (Uh Oh).”

Even though there will be no flashy and ornate halftime show, the game will still be must-see TV. In the CFP era, Notre Dame has never taken home a national championship. On the contrary, Ohio State is looking for their second CFP championship since they last won in 2015.
