Dave Grohl Set To Perform at ‘SNL’ 50th Anniversary Concert

Dave Grohl’s history with Saturday Night Live runs deep. The Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer has performed on the famed live television program 16 times as a musical guest. Naturally, Dave Grohl is a big part of SNL’s musical history. It only makes sense that he’d perform for the show’s 50th anniversary concert at Radio City Music Hall.

The concert will take place this Friday and feature an enormous star-studded lineup. Just a few big names that are expected to perform include Eddie Vedder, Lady Gaga, David Byrne, Miley Cyrus, DEVO, and many more.

Interestingly enough, Grohl was not originally part of the concert lineup that was announced earlier last week. However, a recently released promotional video for the concert revealed that Grohl will be part of the upcoming musical extravaganza.

The upcoming SNL50 concert is produced by Mark Ronson and Lorne Michaels, and will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon. The concert is expected to run for about three hours. Fans can watch the concert via Peacock on February 14, starting at 8:00 pm ET. The concert will also be shown at several IMAX theaters in the US as well.

Dave Grohl’s History with ‘SNL’

Dave Grohl has never hosted SNL. However, he has appeared as a musical guest a whopping 16 times throughout his career.

Grohl debuted on the television program back in 1992 as the drummer of Nirvana. During that performance, Grohl performed “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Territorial Pissings” with former bandmates Krist Novoselic and the late Kurt Cobain. He performed on the show with Nirvana again the following year, filled in as a drummer for Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, and performed a number of times with his band Foo Fighters.

Grohl has talked about his love of the show before as well. We can’t wrap our heads around why he hasn’t hosted the program yet.

“One of the great luxuries of my life is that I’ve had the honor to play that show,” said Grohl in an interview with Seth Meyers back in 2021. “So, I got to see all of these amazing casts.”

Last week, Grohl also made an appearance at the FireAid benefit concert, where he reunited with former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic for an impromptu Nirvana reunion.
