Noel Gallagher Declares the Super Bowl Halftime Show “Absolute Nonsense”

In all fairness, American football has never been Noel Gallagher’s thing. The Oasis frontman is a lifelong Manchester City F.C. fan. “College football today is one of the last great strongholds of genuine old-fashioned American hypocrisy, “Gallagher once declared.

During a recent appearance on the UK radio station talkSPORT, Noel Gallagher, 57, shared his feelings on this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.

“I had to switch it off,” Gallagher said bluntly. “It was absolute nonsense.”

Pressed for details, the “Don’t Look Back in Anger” hitmaker admitted he didn’t watch the entire performance. “There’s, like, you know, 300 people getting out of a car in the first two minutes,” he said.

However, Gallagher couldn’t name a better halftime performance, as he doesn’t typically watch the Super Bowl spectacle. “I don’t like the halftime nonsense, it’s usually artists I don’t like,” he said. “I never watch it. I’m not interested in it.”

Kendrick Lamar Sets Records Regardless

Kendrick Lamar may have not made a fan out of Noel Gallagher with Sunday’s (Feb. 9) Super Bowl Halftime Show performance. However, the “Not Like Us” rapper did make history.

The 22-time GRAMMY winner became the first solo rapper to ever headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show. His performance—featuring guests like SZA, Samuel L. Jackson and Serena Williams—became the most-watched halftime show of all time, drawing 133.5 million viewers.

In fact, Lamar garnered more views than the game itself. Only 126 million viewers watched the Philadelphia Eagles decisively beat the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.
