Haim Breaks TikTok Silence, Responds to Djo’s Fantastic “Gasoline” Cover

Recently, Djo (a.k.a. Joe Keery, a.k.a Steve Harrington in “Stranger Things”) paid homage to L.A. pop-rock band Haim with a breezy cover of their 2020 song “Gasoline.” The reception was overwhelmingly positive, with fans calling for Djo to get his own Tiny Desk concert. And, as it turns out, Haim agrees. The sister trio of Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim ended their TikTok hiatus to respond to Djo’s tribute.

“Oh They Plotting Something:” Fans Call For Haim, Djo Collab

Last Thursday (Feb. 20) Djo stopped by the Australian talk show Triple J, where he performed a rendition of Haim’s “Gasoline” during the “Like a Version” segment. Two days later (Saturday, Feb. 22,) the sibling trio responded with their own video on TikTok.

In a short clip set to Djo’s take on “Gasoline,” Este, Danielle and Alana Haim perform their signature synchronized choreography as they lip sync along. “Djo ur such a tease,” the caption read, tagging Keery.

Seeing the clip sparked speculation of a collab between Haim and Djo. “omg Gasoline remix featuring Djo?” one TikTok user wrote. “or Djo x Haim collab on Djo LP3???”

“oh they plotting somethinggg,” another added.

Djo said of his performance afterwards, “I think what I connect to is there’s a little edge in the song, and I feel like sometimes in my own personal life, I don’t allow myself to express that edge, but through the song, I feel like I can kind of live in that for a second, and it feels pretty good.

Is New Music on the Way?

Haim last released an album five years ago with 2020’s Women in Music Pt. III. Now, their fans—including Djo—are ready for more.

“I hope they’re making new music soon because we deserve another album from them,” he said. “We’re overdue.”

Judging from the TikTok comments section (“I need y’all in the studio,” “JUST RELEASE THE ALBUM ALREADY!!!”) fans agree with his sentiment. Fortunately, many signs point toward that being the case. On Feb. 13, the “Don’t Wanna” singers began posting to TikTok for the first time in a year and a half—often a sure sign something is brewing in the studio.

It’s been two years since Haim announced they were working on their fourth studio album. The band last released new music in July 2023 with “Home,” their contribution to the Barbie soundtrack.
