Given the momentum of this season, American Idol wanted to keep the ball rolling as a new episode will air tonight. But tonight’s episode is a little different due to the fact that fans will watch the last round of auditions. Having only one more chance to land a spot on American Idol, the remaining group definitely felt the pressure.

Knowing what is on the line, Underwood, Richie, and Bryan are sure to take extra care when watching the remaining auditions. And for Underwood, she knew exactly what the singers were feeling when they stood in front of the judges. Having stood there before, the country star felt a connection with the contestants. Recently, the three met a stay-at-home named Samantha Ray.

Contestant Leaves Carrie Underwood Speechless On ‘American Idol’

Proving the amazing talent found by American Idol, Ray took over the audition when she covered Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance.” For Ray, the moment seemed surreal as she admitted, “I’ve been singing since I was little watching this show with my sister. Growing up was awesome because I had somebody to sing with. She was my music partner. I would sing songs; she would sing songs; or we would sing songs together and do harmonies. Me and her both loved Carrie Underwood, so impressing her is the top of the line for me.”

After the audition, Underwood struggled to find the words to describe the spectacular cover. When asked about her inspiration, Ray explained, “Earlier this year, in February, I lost her to a drug overdose. Losing her hurt so much. She’s a year younger than me and we were very close. She had two little boys and knowing they don’t have their mom anymore is really heartbreaking. So, I’m here for her.”

Gaining a “yes” from each judge, Ray continued on, but with one last episode of auditions, don’t miss American Idol, airing tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and available to stream on Hulu.
