Kelly Clarkson is a once-in-a-generation kind of vocal talent. A virtual unknown when she won the inaugural season of American Idol back in 2002, Clarkson has gone on to sell more than 82 million records. These days, you can mostly find the “Since U Been Gone” songstress heading up her own daytime TV show on NBC. However, she’s hardly forgotten her roots. Viewers of The Kelly Clarkson Show look forward to her “Kellyoke” segments, in which she puts her own spin on other artists’ work. And her latest cover of this Foo Fighters favorite has fans begging for a rock album.

Watch Kelly Clarkson Channel Her Inner Dave Grohl
Taking the stage during Thursday’s (April 3) episode of her Emmy-winning talk show, Kelly Clarkson belted the Foo Fighters’ 1999 smash hit “Learn to Fly.”
Hitting every single high note and then some, Clarkson, 42, made the song fully her own. “New Kelly rock album, I BEG!” one Instagram user implored.
Another fan agreed, writing, “Rock Kelly is my favorite.”
Sharing a clip of the performance to the show’s social media, Clarkson wrote, “Really love these lyrics, Dave.” #iykyk
Judging from the comments, several longtime viewers picked up on the inside joke tucked into the caption. Back in 2021, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl stopped by the set to discuss his songwriting.
Clarkson gushed over the profound lyrics in “Learn to Fly,” giving a detailed analysis of the hidden meaning she uncovered—only for the “Best of You” singer to confess that it was never that deep.
“At the time, I wanted to become a pilot. I wanted to learn to fly,” admitted Grohl, 56. “I mean, like, that’s it.”
“Oh my God, it’s so literal,” Clarkson howled in anguish.

Is Clarkson Looking For a Way Out of Daytime TV?
Last month, viewers tuned into The Kelly Clarkson Show to find its eponymous star missing from set. The three-time Grammy winner wouldn’t return for almost two weeks as she tended to a “personal matter.”
Now, sources tell Page Six that Clarkson may be eying a more permanent hiatus. The pop star, who relocated to New York from Los Angeles for the show, is reportedly looking to leave next year when her contract expires.
As no official sources have commented on the matter, we’ll just have to wait and see.
