Damon Albarn of Blur Is “Too Busy” To Attend Oasis Reunion

Some beefs never truly die. Though, it’s hard to tell if Blur’s Damon Albarn skipping out on the highly-anticipated Oasis reunion is beef-related, or even beef-adjacent.

In a recent interview with Italian publication Il Messaggero, Albarn was asked (of course) about the Oasis reunion. For reference, the highly anticipated reunion tour kicked off on July 4 in Cardiff, Wales. The tour is expected to come to an end on November 23 of this year in Brazil. In response to the publication’s question, Albarn took it upon himself to say that he predicted the reunion of his historic Britpop rivals, Noel and Liam Gallagher, would happen.

“The Oasis reunion?” said Albarn. “Two years ago I was prophetic when I said that they would do it and that the road was level. Well, you can’t think that two brothers can’t reconcile, sooner or later. It’s a good thing, the way I see it.”

The kind words were welcomed, to say the least. Back in the day, Blur and Oasis were the biggest Britpop bands of the 90s. They beefed pretty hard, often resorting to calling each other names and slinging all sorts of insults at one another as they battled for dominance on the charts.

Blur’s Damon Albarn Thinks Oasis Reunion Is a “Good Thing,” but Won’t Be Checking Out Any of the Shows

Despite saying that the Oasis reunion is a good thing, Albarn made it pretty clear that he won’t be catching any of the shows. Though, who knows if that would even be possible? The tour sold out lightning-fast when tickets first went on sale last year.

The publication asked Albarn directly if he would be attending one of Oasis’ upcoming tour dates.

“No,” said Albarn. “I’m literally too busy.”

Well, you win some and you lose some. However, it’s pretty clear that whatever rivalry the two bands had back in the day has more or less softened with time. In fact, Noel Gallagher and Albarn collaborated back in 2017 on the Gorillaz song “We Got The Power”. Albarn even sympathized with Gallagher back in 2018, noting that he was “one of the only people who went through what [Albarn] did in the 90s.” Liam Gallagher has also had a few nice words to say about Albarn in recent years, calling him a “great songwriter” back in 2022.
