‘American Idol’ Winner Will Headline Her First Tour in 2025

As the curtain fell on 2024, Abi Carter took some time to reflect. It was certainly a banner year for the 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Indio, California. In May, American Idol viewers crowned her the winner of season 22. Wasting no time, she dropped her debut album, Ghosts in the Backyard, in November. And it seems Carter has equally lofty plans for 2025, including her first-ever headlining tour.

Abi Carter Will Hit the Road In 2025

Taking to Instagram Monday (Jan. 13), Abi Carter announced her Ghosts in the Backyard Tour, named for the American Idol winner’s debut album.

“AHHHHHH I’M GOING ON TOUR!!!!!” the “Peppermint Sky” singer wrote in the caption.

The tour kicks off The Casbah in San Diego on Feb. 25—which, as one fan pointed out on Instagram, marks one year since Carter punched her golden ticket to Hollywood. The singer-songwriter will also make stops in Nashville and Atlanta before wrapping up with two North Carolina shows on March 13-15. Fans can purchase tickets here.

If you can’t make it to one of Carter’s seven shows, don’t worry. She’ll return to her hometown of Indio, California, for an April 25 performance at Stagecoach.

Carter began writing material for what would become Ghosts in the Backyard while still filming American Idol. In an exclusive interview with American Songwriter, she described her debut album as “a lot of thoughts and feelings and pain and happiness and sadness.”

“I worked so hard on every single [song,] and it really just comes from me,” she said.

When Does ‘American Idol’ Return?

While Abi Carter is building her post-American Idol resume, the show is making room for its next crop of hopefuls. Season 23 premieres Sunday, March 9, at 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC.

Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie will reprise their roles as judges for the eighth straight season. Country superstar Carrie Underwood joins them this year on the judging panel, 20 years after her season 4 victory.

Underwood replaces Katy Perry, who exited the show after seven seasons to refocus on her musical career.
