The Arctic Monkeys have given their classic track “A Certain Romance” a new life. The British band returned to their hometown of Sheffield, England, over the weekend (June 9) to perform at Hillsborough Park.

The indie-rockers delivered a handful of their biggest hits, including their 2006 banger “A Certain Romance.” The Arctic Monkeys took the stage in broad daylight and kicked off their set with a bang. The stirring introduction, composed of ear-grabbing guitar pulls, received a rowdy response from concert-goers.

Frontman Alex Turner flawlessly jumped into the first verse, displaying his undeniable stage presence and charm. Once he began to sing the chorus, the audience belted the lyrics over the lively instrumentals.

You know? Oh, it’s a funny thing, you know | We’ll tell ‘em if you like, well tell ‘em all tonight | They’ll never listen, because their minds are made up | And course it’s all okay to carry on that way, sings Turner

‘Cause over there there’s a broken bones | There’s only music so that there’s new ringtones | And it don’t take no Sherlock Holmes | To see it’s a little different around here | Don’t get me wrong though, there’s boys in bands | And kids who like to scrap with pool cues in their hands | And just ‘cause he’s had a couple of cans | He thinks it’s all right to act like a dickhead

The band hasn’t performed “A Certain Romance” since 2013. The gig was the perfect place to give the beloved track a modern twist, as the lyrics reflect on youth culture and the nightlife in Sheffield. The rebellious track was penned by the band members of Arctic Monkeys, which at the time were Turner (vocals/ guitar), Jamie Cook (guitar), Andy Nicholson (bass guitar), and Matt Helders (drums).

“A Certain Romance” is the final track on their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. The collection received critical acclaim upon release, reaching mainstream success and becoming the fastest-selling debut album in the UK chart history. The tracklist also includes – “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor,” “Still Take You Home,” “The View From The Afternoon,” and “Mardy Bum.”

The hitmakers recently released The Car, and are currently on their European tour, supporting the 2022 collection. They are expected to do a string of shows in London, Spain, Italy, Greece, and France.

The band will kick off their North American leg in late August at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Tickets are available for purchase, HERE
