Blake Shelton Is Headed to Norman as Special Guest Picker for College Gameday

Country music has already conquered the NFL with Carrie Underwood’s revered performance of “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night.” Now, the college football takeover begins. Jelly Roll has already teamed up with ESPN College GameDay for the 2024 anthem, “Get By.” Now, Blake Shelton will appear on College GameDay this weekend as the program’s guest picker.

Blake Shelton Must Choose: Sooners or Vols?

ESPN College GameDay will head to Norman, Oklahoma, on Saturday (Sept. 21) as the No. 15 Sooners take on the sixth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers at home. And Sooner State native Blake Shelton is this weekend’s guest picker, the program revealed Thursday (Sept. 19.)

College GameDay kicks off at 8 a.m. Central, with Shelton likely making his appearance toward the end of the program at about 11 a.m.

Celebrity guest pickers typically appear in the segment’s prediction part, which is usually at the end of each episode. Before the show ends, the guests must choose the winners of the games scheduled for the week.

“It’s Going to Be Huge”

Born in Ada, Oklahoma, Blake Shelton now lives on a ranch near Tishomingo. Therefore, his pick shouldn’t come as a surprise. The “Boys Round Here” singer will likely ride with the Sooners—although he did tell Pat McAfee that he also roots for rival Oklahoma State University.

“I don’t know if it’s legal to be both, but I always have been,” Shelton said, adding that he also cheers for the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricanes.

This is the Sooners’ first home conference game since leaving the Big 12 for the SEC, and Shelton said he is honored to be part of that experience.

“I’ve got a lot of friends and family that go to every single one of the games. So obviously, the first SEC game at home—the whole state is buzzing. You know, it’s just going to be huge,” said the former Voice coach. “And on top of that, that particular game is going to be a tough game. I’m so excited you guys asked me to do it.”
