Lukas Nelson definitely inherited his father’s musical genes. The 35-year-old singer-songwriter has produced two collaborative albums with Neil Young, as well as multiple records with his band Promise of the Real. He even stepped in for Willie this summer when the 91-year-old icon was feeling under the weather. Having already proven that he is completely at ease sharing the stage with musical legends, Lukas recently performed alongside Bob Dylan.

Bob Dylan Recruits Lukas Nelson To Close Out Set
This summer, Lukas Nelson has been making the rounds with his father, Bob Dylan, and John Mellencamp on the Outlaw Music Festival tour. The “Just Outside of Austin” singer has teamed up with more than a few legends, including Paul Simon’s wife, Edie Brickell. This past Saturday (Aug. 11,) Bob Dylan brought Lukas onstage for a dramatic four-song finish.
Nelson joined Dylan and his band at The Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, Washington. They kicked off their time together with “Early Roman Kings,” the lead single from 2012’s Tempest. Lukas showed off his considerable guitar skills with an electrifying solo about three minutes into the eight-minute tune.
But it didn’t stop there. Nelson stayed for “Simple Twist of Fate and “Soon After Midnight” before capping off the night with “Ballad of a Thin Man.”
Online, multiple fans marveled at how seamlessly Lukas Nelson integrated into Dylan’s posse. “So nice to watch how Lucas is received into this fantastic Band,” one YouTube user wrote. “whatever he do it sounds good.”
Willie Nelson’s Son Reveals What Kris Kristofferson Told Him Years Ago
You’d be hard pressed to find a more iconic duo than Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. The octogenarians have long shared a bond that translates beautifully into their art. So it’s not surprising that Kristofferson also left his mark on Lukas Nelson. The “Georgia” singer acknowledged that influence in a social media post for Kristofferson’s 83rd birthday.
“When I was young, Kris heard a song I wrote and said “you gonna be a songwriter” and I said “I don’t know…” wrote Lukas Nelson. “Then he told me, “you don’t have a choice!” Thanks for the inspiration Kris! Love you!”
