“It’s definitely unfortunate. I mean, if that’s something she was looking to receive and that’s something that she worked for, it really sucks,” Shaboozey told E! News at the 2024 MTV VMAs on Wednesday. “I know as an artist, you put a lot of time and a lot of work and a lot of things and a lot of energy into music.”

However, Shaboozey did note that awards are “not everything.”

“As long as you’re connecting with people and genuinely making music that’s impacting people, that’s all that matters, you know?” he said. “She changed my life, and changed the lives of other artists as well.”

Beyoncé’s life-changing support included featuring Shaboozey on two Cowboy Carter tracks—”SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIIN’” and “SPAGHETTII.”

This is not the first time Shaboozey has addressed Beyoncé’s CMA Awards snub. The “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” singer previously took to X to speak out about the situation.

“That goes without saying. Thank you @Beyonce for opening a door for us, starting a conversation, and giving us one of the most innovative country albums of all time!” he wrote.

Shaboozey’s 2024 CMA Awards Nominations

The CMA Award nominations may have omitted Beyoncé, but they didn’t do the same with Shaboozey. In fact, he is nominated for two trophies—Best New Artist and Single of the Year—at the Nov. 20 ceremony.

“Wrote a song about winning a CMA in 2016, and now I’m nominated for 2!” Shaboozey wrote on X. “Thank you @CountryMusic and congrats to the other nominees. What an honor would be an understatement. #CMAawards”
