The song is a modern throwback to the old school days of listening to songs on the radio. “‘Back In The Day’ is truly a modern-day throwback to a feel-good road-trip anthem,” said Michaels of the track. “It is a song that truly reflects on great times and pays homage to the radio stations and DJs that cranked up the music while bringing us great songs that have withstood the test of time, songs that all my friends and I would sing along to then and now.”

He added, “Music is a universal language meant to unite us, not divide us, and that is exactly what this song is about. It’s also a hell of a lot of fun to sing along to, as is the video to watch as it weaves a story of my life and the music that rocked it.”

The video reflects the feel of early MTV videos, according to Michaels, with a green screen, pop-up captions and never-before-seen photos and original Hi-8 images from his younger years.

It has been a decade since Michaels released his fourth solo album, Jammin’ with Friends. Along with Poison, he spent most of 2022 on the road with a world stadium tour with Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard and Joan Jett.

Michaels is set to kick off a limited run of solo shows for his 2023 Parti-Gras Tour on July 13. The tour features special guests Night Ranger and Jefferson Starship with special appearances from former Journey singer Steve Augeri and Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray.

“If you poured it into a bowl, it’s the spectacular show of KISS, the fun party of Jimmy Buffett and some Pitbull high energy, just good party party rave,” said Michaels of the upcoming tour. “It’s unique, never quite been done before. I said I want to throw that party starting in the parking lot, into the building. Let fans have a chance to be on the side of the stage. They’re doing the ‘Dress Like Bret’ karaoke contest. It’s like a carnival of fun and awesomeness.”
