Sitting down with Guitar Player, Kulick took fans on a trip into the past, recalling some memorable moments of his career. But when it came to his time with KISS, he never forgot the Crazy Nights tour and the night they played in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Even before the concert, Kulick remembered getting nervous as he noticed police in full gear. But that was just the start as the fans introduced KISS to “gobbing.”

For those who might not know, gobbing is the act of spitting on a performer to show them how much you love them. And for KISS, the band received a great deal of love. “The excited fans at King’s Hall were spitting all over us! They were quite gifted at spitting, even reaching my fingerboard, while I was doing my best to play guitar. As you can imagine, this was incredibly horrific.”

Bruce Kulick Not A Fan Of Gobbing

Sharing the stage with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, the entire band was subject to a great deal of spit. “I had their spit in my hair and all over my clothes. Later we were told that’s how audiences in Ireland express their love for a band – by drenching them in phlegm. Sorry, no, thank you!”

While the band couldn’t get away from the gobbing, drummer Eric Carr appeared safe as he sat behind the drum set, far away from the eager fans. Although not Kulick’s favorite moment of the 1980s and touring with KISS, it is just one of countless stories that come from the rock band that captured not only the airwaves but an entire generation of rock and roll fans who continue to support and showcase their love for one of the most controversial bands in music.
