Country Star Battling Cancer Reveals He’s Undergoing Operation While Performing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”

While exploring a promising solo career in country music, many remember Raul Malo for his time with the Mavericks. Although the lead singer of the band, Malo also helped write several singles for the group. Loving his time in the spotlight, the singer sadly announced he was diagnosed with cancer back in June. Taking time to focus on his treatment, the songwriter recently offered an update while showing his support for the New York Yankees as they look to win the World Series.

Posting a video on Instagram, Malo covered the iconic anthem “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” while wearing a Yankees hat. Finding some joy in watching the team make a run for the World Series, the singer posted an update in the caption, writing, “I also wanted to apologize to all that were planning on coming to New Hope Winery in December. Doctors don’t want to risk losing the window to operate successfully on the liver (especially after the first procedure went so well). The operation is set for Dec 10 with roughly a month for recovery. Sadly the New Hope shows will be affected.”

While heartbroken over the decision to postpone the show, Malo promised to return to the stage in 2025. “The hopes are to start the year strong, rested and healthy. All the Mavericks shows will play including finishing out our year at the Ryman. Thank you all for your loving support and your understanding of the fluid situation that we’ve been dealing with.”

Fans Rally Around Raul Malo And The New York Yankees

Wanting the best for Malo, fans filled the comment section with love and support for the singer. “Most definitely do what’s best for you!! We are all here cheering for you and most definitely all will be ready to rock n roll when you are sending nothing but positive vibes your way!!” One person continued, “ So bummed about New Hope, but getting you well is our TOP PRIORITY. Do you think you’ll be well enough for SBC?? And hell yeah, GO YANKEES!”

Back in June, Malo explained how doctors found the cancer after the band decided to focus on their health. “In the last couple of years, we out here on the road, we have been on a health kick. Treating ourselves a little better. Taking care out ourselves a little better, and really trying to do all the right things as far as nutrition, etc. So, part of the health journey is to get yourself checked out. Go to a doctor, take a physical and start there.” Able to catch the cancer early, Malo continues to stay positive.
