Crossover or Mainstay? Blake Shelton Weighs in on Post Malone’s Staying Power in Country Music

Former Voice judge and country music star, Blake Shelton appeared on The Pat McAfee Show today. They discussed everything from his impending College GameDay appearance to his life after the Voice. However, the biggest soundbite was Shelton’s comments about Post Malone’s album, F-1 Trillion, and the potential for there to be more like it.

McAfee and Shelton bounced the conversation back and forth regarding his collaboration with Malone. And Shelton couldn’t have been more complimentary about the 29-year-old international superstar letting him sing on his No. 1 album.

Post Malone Impressed Blake Shelton

Shelton offered a handful of superlatives when it came to Malone in country music. One of the most flattering is when Shelton said, “I think the reason it’s working so well with Post is it’s not something that he’s just trying, like a one-off thing.”

Shelton bolstered his point stating, “He’s so knowledgeable about country music and the writers and the musicians,” and “the first time I got a chance to sit and talk to him just about country music, I was blown away, you know?” Given Malone’s constant praise of country music, there was little doubt that he didn’t know the genre. But to hear it come from one of country music’s finest makes it all the more credible.

In regards to Malone’s impressiveness, Shelton closed his spiel saying, “he was telling me stuff that I didn’t know, and he’s fans of musicians that he’s introducing me to that are old school.” It seems Malone’s old soul and knack for country music is reportedly what makes him fit right into the genre.

Post Malone Is Here To Stay

After Shelton left it all out on the table praising Malone, how could he possibly leave country music? Well, according to Shelton that is something we don’t have to worry about. As Malone is “able to do this thing that he’s always wanted to do,” says Shelton.

It was this reason that led Shelton to say the memorable quote—”I feel like Post is probably here to stay.” Let’s hope Shelton is right, as people seemingly can’t get enough of Post Malone in country music. F-1 Trillion is currently sitting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with numerous No. 1 songs.
