Hoobastank Celebrating “The Reason” with 20th Anniversary Show

Hoobastank has a “Reason” to celebrate. On December 11, Hoobastank is celebrating 20 years of The Reason with a special show where they’ll perform the album in its entirety at the famous punk rock venue The Echo in Los Angeles. Hoobastank is also releasing a new vinyl edition of the album that features a cover of Rod Stewart’s hit, “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” that was recorded in 2003 at the same time as the album. The vinyl comes with Polaroid photos taken of the band at the time of the album’s recording, in addition to boasting updated cover art that now features the praying man from the original cover against a new wooden backdrop.

“This anniversary is extra special for me,” Hoobastank frontman Doug Robb said in a press statement. “Having the album that pretty much defined our careers turn 20 years old and for us to still be able to play it for fans, old and new, is something I never dreamt of when we were recording it. This album opened so many doors and exposed us to so many fans to whom I’ve been so thankful for and still can never truly express my gratitude to. Happy birthday to a piece of music that shaped my life, personally, so much.”

The Reason was released on December 9, 2003, as Hoobstank’s sophomore album. It reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The title track became a global success and is one of their signature hits, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hitting No. 1 on multiple charts around the world, including the Alternative Airplay chart in the U.S.

“The Reason” recently hit another career milestone when the video joined YouTube’s Billion Views Club. “When we wrote this song, and later shot the video, never in our wildest dreams could we have predicted the reach, longevity and connection it would have with you, our fans and listeners around the world,” the band wrote on Instagram at the time.
