Back in 1974, Austin PBS wanted to produce a television program that focused on music called Austin City Limits. Although just a concept at the time, a pilot taped on October 17th of that year. Needing to find the perfect singer, the producers decided to reach out to none other than Willie Nelson. While a little shy around the cameras at the time, Nelson produced a flawless production that helped the show gain funding. Now, 50 years later, both Nelson and Austin City Limits continue to flourish. And wanting to celebrate their 50th anniversary, Austin City Limits is not only welcoming Nelson back but giving fans the chance to see the concert for FREE.

While few things in life are truly free, the chance to see Nelson perform at Austin’s Long Center for Performing Arts is too good to pass up. With the venue overlooking Lady Bird Lake, the concert will offer a picnic-style setting for fans to enjoy the concert. Taking place on October 17th, fans who would like to see Nelson and his family perform only need to register with Fair AXS.
Between September 20th and September 23rd, fans can register to receive free admission to Austin City Limits 50th Birthday Bash. The registration window will stay open till 10:00 p.m. on September 23rd. For those who happen to get their name picked, they will get an email between September 26-27. Although one might receive an email from Austin City Limits, they will still need to claim the prize as the number of tickets is limited.
Austin City Limits Praise Legacy Of Willie Nelson
Releasing a statement about the birthday bash, Austin City Limits took a moment to praise Nelson and his impact on music. “With a seven-decade career, Willie Nelson has earned every conceivable award as a musician and amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor, and activist. He continues to thrive as a relevant and progressive musical and cultural force.”
Sharing their ongoing relationship, Austin City Limits insisted, “In the 50-year history of Austin City Limits, no artist has personified the music series’ eclectic, freewheeling spirit more fully than the man with the braids, the beard and the guitar named Trigger.”
