Is ‘American Idol’ New Monday, April 7
Fans have come to expect a new episode of American Idol on Sundays. Now that the contestants have reached Hollywood, the show has moved to a two-day-a-week schedule. That means a brand-new episode of American Idol will air on ABC Monday, April 7, at 8 p.m. Eastern.
Tonight (Sunday, April 6) marks Showstoppers Week on Idol. The 62 remaining hopefuls must again convince the judges to keep their dream alive for another week.
This week also marks Jelly Roll’s debut as the first-ever artist in residence. The “Son of a Sinner” crooner is on hand to offer insights gleaned from more than 20 years in the music industry. With Showstoppers Week all about commanding a stage, who better to lead these aspiring stars than Jelly Roll?
Subsequently, Monday’s episode ushers in a new “Head to Head” phase of the competition. It’s exactly what it sounds like, with two artists squaring up off against one another in a battle to stay alive on the show.

The Embarrassing ‘Idol’ Moment That Haunts Carrie Underwood 20 Years Later
Carrie Underwood became a household name when she won season 4 of American Idol back in 2005. Her victory launched one of the most successful country music careers of all time. However, one particular snafu has stuck with Underwood since her time on the show.
In a throwback clip posted to the show’s Instagram page last Tuesday (April 1), the “Before He Cheats” songbird casually chats with host Ryan Seacrest about her Hollywood experience.
“A lot of people take photos of the sidewalk, the stars, the sign,” Seacrest told the then 21-year-old Oklahoman. “Any of the stars? Have you seen stars?” he then asked.
“I mean, it’s been pretty cloudy,” Underwood replied, to which Seacrest responded, “No, I mean celebrities.”
In a present-day clip, Underwood says the now-infamous clip “has haunted me literally for 20 years.”
“A lot of people… were, like, keyboard warriors, like, ‘Nobody’s this dumb. Surely this is scripted,’” she recalled. “I’m sad to say, it was not scripted.”
