James Blunt has “All the Love That I Ever Needed” in his new song. On Friday (September 22), Blunt dropped the gentle piano-driven song that finds him reflecting on a meaningful relationship. Here, he professes his love for the woman who had an irreversible impact on his life. There’s something I forgot to tell you/Something only I knew/All the love that I ever needed, I got it from you/I know it’s hard to believe it/With all the shit that I do/But all the love that I ever needed, I got it from you, he sings in the cinematic chorus.

“All the Love” is the second release off Blunt’s upcoming album, Who We Used to Be, following lead single “Beside You.” “It’s a bit of a celebration,” Blunt described in a press release about “Beside You.” “An upbeat banger about finally being with the one you’ve been searching for your whole life.” The album is set for release on October 27.

Who We Used to Be is Blunt’s first album since Once Upon a Mind was released in 2019 which featured “Monsters.” Blunt wrote the song in honor of his ailing father and it was brought to national attention when Iam Tongi used it as his audition song on season 21 of American Idol in 2023.

“It’s just a beautiful performance,” Blunt raves to American Songwriter about Tongi’s cover. “His voice is just amazing. The emotion with which he sang is deeply moving, and you can’t help but be touched. I was like everyone else when I watched him do it, I became a fan.”

Tongi and Blunt performed an emotional duet of “Monsters” on the season finale of Idol where Tongi was crowned the winner. “I felt my job was to sing with Iam and to stand by his side and sing it with him, and to try and enjoy the performance and get into the performance as much as we possibly can,” Blunt expresses of the live performance. “For the ups and downs of the emotion, I felt we were very close to each other during all of that. It was two guys in sync, going through different times in our lives, but totally in sync with the emotion.”
