Since the release of her celebrated debut album Same Trailer Different Park, Kacey Musgraves has shifted from a rising country singer/songwriter to a superstar no longer defined by genre. The 35-year-old has progressively embraced a more pop-forward sound, expedited by the massive success of her 2018 album, Golden Hour.

With Musgraves’ move towards a more experimental, genre-bending sound comes a new list of possible duet partners and creative colleagues to explore. Take a look at five intriguing Kacey Musgraves collaborations that showcase her artistic versatility:

1. “Waves”

One of Musgraves’ earliest non-country releases is this steamy, metaphor-heavy duet with R&B artist Miguel. This steamy reimagined version of “Waves,” which was originally included on Miguel‘s 2015 record, Wildheart, was recorded for his star-studded remix EP, Rogue Waves, the following year.

2. “Easy”

Australian pop singer Troye Sivan recruited Musgraves and award-winning producer Mark Ronson to put a fresh spin on his synth-pop track “Easy.” Released in 2020, this rhythmic disco-inspired single about a lover trying to hold onto a failing relationship hinted at the upcoming sonic shift featuring on Musgraves’ 2021 album Star-Crossed.

3. “Sitting In the Corner”

In the summer of 2022, Mexican-American talent Cuco teased his soon-to-be-released record, Fantasy Getaway, with this psychedelic collaboration with Musgraves. “Sitting In the Corner,” featuring Mexican singer/songwriter Adriel Favela, is a trippy, multi-lingual look back at a lost love.

4. “God and the Policeman”

Seasoned psych-rock group The Flaming Lips recruited Musgraves for this wild tune, introducing listeners to an indignant narrator fleeing looming consequences. “God and the Policeman” is a cut from the influential band’s 2020 studio album, American Head.

5. “Wait on Me”

This slow-rolling, soulful duet from the R&B duo THEY. is one of Musgraves’ latest collaborations, which dropped in April 2023. This declaration of dedication to a patient love interest earns a new layer of passionate determination with the addition of Musgraves’ airy harmonies.
