Kali Uchis Announces New Spanish-Language Album ‘Orquídeas’ Out Next January

Following her third album Red Moon in Venus, which dropped in March, Colombian-American artist Kali Uchis just announced her next project: a full-length, Spanish-language album titled Orquídeas, due out on January 12, 2024.

In Spanish, “orquídeas” means “orchids,” which Uchis explained has special significance in Colombia and to her personally.

“The orchid is the national flower of Colombia, and we have more species of orchid than anywhere on earth,” Uchis said in a statement. “I always felt distinctly intrigued and magnetized by the flower. This album is inspired by the timeless, eerie, mystic, striking, graceful and sensual allure of the orchid. With this vast scope of fresh energy, I wish to re-define the way we look at Latinas in music.”

Uchis released the first single from the album in August, titled “Muñekita.” The song features El Alfa, a Dominican dembow singer, and JT from City Girls. The song samples Panamanian rapper Lorna’s debut 2003 single “Papi Chulo…Te Traigo El Mmmm,” and it’s an endlessly danceable song with an infectious beat that showcases the unique yet blended sounds of all three artists.

“I love bringing artists together that you’d least expect,” said Uchis in a press release at the time. “El Alfa is a Latino legend and JT is someone I’ve admired forever. Both of them are known for their summer hits and high energy, so I’m incredibly excited to bring them together for a fun, sexy song like this.”

Orquídeas will be Uchis’ second Spanish-language project and her fourth full-length album overall. The official album art features Uchis pressed against glass and covered in orchid petals. Recently, Uchis wrapped her Red Moon In Venus Tour, which began at Lollapalooza Chile, Argentina, and Brazil.

Then in April, she played Coachella to kick off the U.S. leg of the tour, which ended in May. She then announced additional dates in September, which concluded on October 3 in El Paso. For support, Uchis initially brought Summer Walker, Don Toliver, and Omar Apollo. For the additional dates, she had Dominican artist Tokischa as well as Buscabulla as openers.
