While Metallica held several awards, the band’s most significant achievement came from their ability to play all over the world. Loving the power that comes from a live performance, the band made history in 2013 when they performed a concert in Antarctica. Becoming the first band to play in all seven continents, Metallica set their sights on one of the newest venues that offered an experience like no other – the Las Vegas Sphere.

Costing nearly $2 billion to build, the Sphere gave bands the ability to transport the audience into their world. With the dome featuring cutting-edge technology, some considered it to be the ultimate venue. Speaking with Howard Stern, Lars Ulrich revealed that Metallica had already visited the venue. “I’m not going to confirm anything, because there’s nothing to confirm. But I’m not going to deny it, because we’re all such fans of this venue. All of our managers and our production people have been there and looked at it.”
With Metallica preparing to head overseas in 2026 for a summer tour, Ulrich admitted, “It’s something that we’re considering, [but] nothing is etched in stone or green-lit. It’s something that we’re looking at at some point when the 2026 tour is done.” Having seen the power of the Sphere when watching U2 perform, he added, “I’m not going to bulls**t you, I would f***ing love to do it, let there be no question about it. It’s not signed, sealed and delivered, but speaking to me and asking my opinion I would f***ing love to do it.”
Metallica Might Be The Perfect Fit For Super Bowl LX
Outside of Ulrich’s thoughts on the Sphere, it seemed that Metallica also looked to one of the biggest stages in the United States – the Super Bowl. When asked by Stern if they would perform a halftime show if asked, the drummer didn’t waste a moment. “F*** yeah of course we would.”
Though playing the Super Bowl is a dream for most bands, this year’s game lands in San Francisco -Metallica’s backyard. Creating Metallica during the 1980s in Los Angeles, Ulrich explained, “To do it in San Francisco would be a dream come true and would be the right fit. We haven’t been approached. …Certainly as somebody who’s represented San Francisco all over the world and shouted for decades about San Francisco and our love for the Bay Area, that part of it is the right fit.”
Although loving the idea, Metallica’s dreams are just that, as Ulrich reminded fans, “Ultimately it’s not our decision.”
