Linkin Park’s New Singer Emily Armstrong Address Backlash Over Alleged Danny Masterson Support

Breaking into the music industry during the 1990s, Linkin Park gained international fame as they released iconic songs like “One Step Closer” and “In The End.” Seeming to expand their stardom with each new release, tragedy struck in 2017 when singer Chester Bennington took his own life. Having sold over 100 million albums, the band decided to take a break. While the future seemed bleak for Linkin Park, the band shocked fans when they announced Emily Armstrong was taking over the singer role. With the band looking to return to the spotlight, Armstrong is already at the center of controversy due to Danny Masterson.

Convicted of raping two women in 2003, Masterson, known for his role on That 70s Show, received a 30 years life sentence. At the time of his trial, the actor had more than a few supporters in his corner. At least until the details emerged. And apparently, one of those people was Armstrong.

Wanting to clear the air, Armstrong wrote on Instagram, “Hi, I’m Emily. I’m new to so many of you, and I wanted to clear the air about something that happened a while back. Several years ago, I was asked to support someone I considered a friend at a court appearance, and went to one early hearing as an observer. Soon after, I realized I shouldn’t have. I always try to see the good in people, and I misjudged him. I have never spoken with him since. Unimaginable details emerged and he was later found guilty.”

Emily Armstrong Denounces Any Form Of Violence Against Women

Waiting for the evidence to present itself, Armstrong quickly distanced herself. As for the recent criticism she received, the singer insisted, “To say it as clearly as possible: I do not condone abuse or violence against women, and I empathize with the victims of these crimes.”

As for Linkin Park, the group not only welcomed Armstrong to the lineup but also musician Colin Brittain. Discussing the new lineup, Mike Shinoda said, “The more we worked with Emily and Colin, the more we enjoyed their world-class talents, their company, and the things we created. We feel really empowered with this new line-up and the vibrant and energised new music we’ve made together. We’re weaving together the sonic touchpoints we’ve been known for and still exploring new ones.”

With Linkin Park gearing up for a return, fans are anxiously awaiting for their newest album, From Zero, to hit shelves in November.
