It was a rocking night in Nashville as Luke Combs took the stage with superstar Vince Gill to perform a Gill classic hit, “One More Last Chance,” during CMA Fest, a three-hour concert special airing Wednesday night (July 19) on ABC.

During the CMA Fest performance, which took place in June 2023, Gill jammed on guitar in front of a packed house at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium as Combs kicked off the first verse of “One More Last Chance,” a song about a man who will stop at nothing to continue his partying ways, even going as far as driving his John Deere tractor to the bar when his wife takes his keys away.

She was standing at the front door / When I came home last night / A good book in her left hand / And a rollin’ pin in the right / She said you’ve come home for the last time / With whiskey on your breath / If you don’t listen to my preachin’ boy / I’m goin’ to have to beat you half to death, Combs tackles the opening of the song.

Gill joined in on the chorus as the two heavyweights covered both ends of the stage. “Vince Gill, come on,” Combs shouted to the audience as Gill took the song to new heights singing, First she hid my glasses / ‘Cause she knows that I can’t see / She said you ain’t goin’ nowhere boy / ‘Til you spend a little time with me / Then the boys called from the honky tonk / Said there’s a party goin’ on down here / Well she might’ve took my car keys / But she forgot about my old John Deere.

Written by Gill and Gary Nicholson, “One More Last Chance” was released in 1993 from Gill’s album,  I Still Believe in You. The song was a chart-topper for Gill, reaching the No. 1 spot on the  Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in October 1993.

The three-hour concert special, which aired on ABC, featured a series of performances from the 50th anniversary of CMA Fest and included performances by Jelly Roll, Jason Aldean, Jo Dee Messina, Jordan Davis, Keith Urban, Leon Bridges, HARDY, Little Big Town, Luke Combs, Tanya Tucker, Vince Gill, Avril Lavigne, Cody Johnson, Carly Pearce, Darius Rucker, Eric Church, and more.
