The documents for the suit have been filed in Los Angeles Superior Court as of January 3. They that the attack followed Minaj allegedly “flying into a rage” backstage at Little Caesars Arena.
The documents named the plaintiff as Brandon Garrett. Garrett claims that while working as Minaj’s day-to-day manager for her Pink Friday 2 Tour, Minaj physically hit him several times. Garrett noted that on one day in April, he was brought to Minaj’s dressing room, where she and her former manager Deb Antney confronted Garrett about sending a different tour employee (one Luke Montgomery) to pick up prescription medication for Minaj.
“Ms. Antney asked why Mr. Montgomery was picking up prescriptions on behalf of Defendant Maraj [Nicki Minaj],” the suit reads. “Plaintiff responded that he had Mr. Montgomery pick up a prescription in the past because Defendant Maraj wanted it immediately, but Plaintiff was occupied at the venue with Defendant Maraj in the quick change room during a performance because one of Plaintiff’s job duties was assisting Defendant Maraj with dressing during performances.”
Nicki Minaj is Getting Sued Over Allegedly Hitting Tour Manager in the Face
According to Garrett, Minaj became upset and began verbally attacking him, going as far as to say that “if my husband was here, he would knock out your f***ing teeth” and “you’re a dead man walking.” Minaj also allegedly threatened to destroy Garrett’s career. Minaj then began screaming at Montgomery to look through his phone to find the exact prescriptions he had picked up.
Neither Garrett nor Montgomery could find the information Minaj requested. When Garrett offered Minaj his phone so she could look herself, she allegedly “got very close to his face” and then open-handedly struck Garrett in the face and on the wrist.
After Minaj’s security team swarmed in, Garrett was ordered out of the room. Garrett said that he “ran to the nearest restroom and locked himself inside for hours.”
The next day, Garrett was allegedly abandoned while the rest of the crew and Minaj traveled to Chicago. Garrett eventually flew back to Chicago but then flew back to Detroit to file a police report after the incident.
Minaj’s attorney calls the allegations “completely false and frivolous.”
Garrett has now officially sued Nicki Minaj for assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He is seeking general, punitive, and exemplary damages.
