Paramore’s Hayley Williams Plays “Jennifer’s Body” Deep Cut Live for First Time, Addresses Nashville’s “Climate Crisis”

Who remembers Jennifer’s Body? No, not the gruesome 1994 Hole hit—the terrifyingly underrated 2009 horror-comedy film starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. If you remember the film, you’re likely also familiar with its killer soundtrack. Released by Fueled by Ramen—the label where early-aughts pop-punk sensations Fall Out Boy and Paramore got their start—the collection features music from artists like Silversun Pickups, All Time Low, and Cobra Starship. What you may not recall, however, is that legendary Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams also contributed an original song called “Teenagers” to the soundtrack. And recently, she played it live for the first time.

Hayley Williams Brings Back Self-Serenades

During the spring of 2020, Hayley Williams began releasing acoustic covers to social media as part of a series she called “Self-Serenades.” The “Misery Business” singer revived the series in a Thursday (April 10) post to Instagram. In the video, Williams, sporting platinum blonde hair and bright green sunglasses, reaches deep into her catalog for “Teenagers.”

The Franklin, Tennessee native, 36, explained in the caption that she wrote the song for the Jennifer’s Body soundtrack when she herself was a teenager. She elaborated further in a post to her Instagram Stories, writing, “Lore behind this one is so ridiculous I can’t tell if tellin’ it would make the song better or worse. Anyway, first self-serenade in years… hope it’s fine by you.”

Williams also tackled climate control and recent weather fluctuation in her hometown, writing “ps the weather in nashville right now is glorious after multiple tornado threats, flooding, and a sleepless night hiding out in the basement. have come a little too close to multiple natural disasters this year. they continue to get worse and more frequent. climate crisis is definitely here and the ppl in power dont give a rats a–.”

The Grammy winner used the remainder of her caption to shine a light on the climate crisis after recent flooding in the Nashville area.

The Jennifer’s Body soundtrack is a perfectly preserved time capsule of the early 2000s emo scene, with contributions from Dashboard Confessional, Panic! At the Disco, and Cute Is What We Aim For. And if you’re anywhere approximating my age (which I will not disclose), Williams’ performance has you halfway down memory lane by now.

Is A Tour Coming?

Half a decade after releasing her solo debut, Petals for Armor, Hayley Williams fans may finally hear those songs performed live this year.

“That is, if the world doesn’t f—ing stop before then,” Williams wrote on Instagram in December. “Here’s hoping.”

The “Still Into You” singer celebrated her 36th birthday by teasing a potential solo tour in 2025. “I’m going to try and finally play some shows next year that would’ve happened nearly 5 years ago now,” she wrote.
