Proud Johnny: BMI to Honor CCR Frontman John Fogerty with Prestigious Award at Private Event in Nashville

John Fogerty’s songs have made an indelible impact on the American music landscape, and the Creedence Clearwater Revival legend will be saluted for his career achievements with the performing-rights organization BMI’s 2025 Troubadour Award. Fogerty will be presented with the prestigious honor during an invite-only ceremony held September 8 at BMI’s Nashville office.

According to a press statement, the Troubadour Award “recognizes a songwriter who has made a profound impact on the creative community and whose work continues to set the pace for generations to follow.”

BMI executive Clay Bradley said about Fogerty being chosen for the honor, “John Fogerty has written and recorded some of the most distinctive and beloved rock songs of the 20th century, and his music is unequivocally the sound of America, with timeless lyrics wrapped in unforgettable melodies that continue to resonate with generations of fans around the world. We’re thrilled to honor John with the BMI Troubadour Award and celebrate his creative achievements and his songs, which have become the soundtrack of so many lives.”

The Troubadour Awards ceremony also will feature tribute performances, as well as speeches by as-yet-unannounced special guests. The event will include a cocktail reception and dinner.

The press announcement also pointed out that Fogerty was named a BMI Icon in 2010, and received the BMI Board of Directors Award in 2023. In addition, he’s earned 13 BMI Million-Air certificates, which recognize that his songs have surpassed one million radio airplays.

Previous Troubadour Award honorees include ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, John Hiatt, John Oates, John Prine, Lucinda Williams, and Robert Earl Keen.

The Troubadour Award presentation will take place a few weeks after the arrival of Fogerty’s latest studio album, Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years. As previously reported, the album, which will be released on August 22, features updated versions of 20 classic CCR tunes written by John.

Legacy can be pre-ordered now, and is available on CD, as a vinyl LP, and via digital formats. Limited-edition colored-vinyl variants can be purchased at various retail outlets and websites.

Meanwhile, Fogerty has two confirmed upcoming concerts on his 2025 schedule. The first takes place on August 30 in Niagara Falls, Canada. The second will be a September 20 performance as part of the iHeart Music Festival in Las Vegas.
