Usually, the fruitcake is the worst part of the holidays, but Sabrina Carpenter is about to change that. She announced a six-track Christmas EP titled fruitcake on her website recently, writing, “I have a sweet treat for you…” in the subject line of her cleverly designed email-style site.

“[M]y new holiday EP ‘fruitcake’ will be coming out next Friday, November 17th!!” she wrote in the body of the “email,” and included a track list and a pre-save link. She also attached an image of herself holding up a, frankly, unappetizing-looking fruitcake, but chances are her new EP will be much sweeter than that particular holiday tradition.

Carpenter has recently dropped more new content, such as the music video for her song “Feather” from emails i can’t send fwd:, the deluxe version of her 2022 album. In the horror-themed video, which dropped on Halloween, Carpenter decked out a historic church with pastel pink and purple coffins and cutesy funereal paraphernalia. Throughout the video, she played a Jennifer’s Body-type character causing mayhem and tragedy for misbehaving men.
The video humorously drew on slasher movie tropes to address toxic masculinity and men behaving badly, such as fighting each other for Carpenter’s attention or whistling at her on the street. In the end, she poses on her pink hearse in a beautiful black tulle mini-dress and veil, “mourning” the doomed men with a wicked smile.
There is also a sped-up version of “Feather,” which Carpenter dropped on her website in another clever email message, and a remix of “Nonsense” with Coi Leray.
Carpenter is currently joining Taylor Swift on the next leg of her massive Eras Tour, providing support in Latin America, Australia, and Singapore. She will be on tour with Swift until March 2024.
