SZA Says Ex’s Father Reached Out after She Placed His Son on Blast

SZA is an open book when it comes to romantic relationships. The R&B artist channels real-life experiences while writing and speaks out about former flings on stage.

During a stop in Portland, Oregon, on her SOS Tour, she dished on her ex-boyfriend. She told the crowd that her previous lover blocked her on social media.

“The person I wrote most of these songs about lives in this city,” shared the hitmaker, in a fan-captured video. “He’s not here, because I’m blocked on everything. This one is extra sad, just because I did write this song about the person that lives here. Being blocked on everything is so Fucking hard.”

Following the performance, the singer – born Solána Rowe – told Elle that her ex-boyfriend’s father reached out to talk about her candid speech.

“My ex’s father just texted me and was like, ‘My son is really hurt about what you said about him to the crowd,'” shared SZA. “You don’t get to block me on everything. Tell our mutual friends terrible things about me like I’m a monster, or whatever the case may be. And then I don’t get to speak my piece in my way. You go do your healing, and I’ll do mine.”

Although SZA is unafraid to speak her truth, she’s not “Blind” to cancel culture. During the interview, she addressed her concerns and believes she’s “one scandal away from being canceled indefinitely.”

“I’m grateful that they like my art and that it speaks to them, and it connects and tethers all of us together in this weird way,” she said, referring to her fans. “It’s dope, but it’s also still a string that could be cut at any moment. Literally, sometimes there’s no rhyme or reason to it.”

The vocalist is expected to pick the tour back up in late September and wrap on October 29 in Phoenix, Arizona.
