Triston Harper captured the hearts of American Idol viewers during season 22. Displaying a vocal prowess far beyond his 15 years with his audition performance of Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up,” fans immediately dubbed him “the new Garth Brooks.” The small-town Alabama teenager made an impressive run before viewers eliminated him at the Top 5. Now 16, it appears Harper has been busy since wrapping up American Idol. He recently tied the knot with girlfriend Paris Reed, and the two are expecting their first child together.

Triston Harper Shares “Big News” Post-‘American Idol’
Nearly six months after his American Idol elimination, Triston Harper took to Facebook Nov. 6 to share a life update.
“Iv [sic] got big news harpies,” wrote the member of the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians, changing his relationship status to “married.”
Fans flooded the post with more than 1,000 comments, many of them wishing the 16-year-old well. “I was almost 18 when we got married…. it’ll be 41 yrs in March…. young love does last….. no matter your age it takes work, communication and LOVE!: one Facebook user wrote. “CONGRATS to you both! Good luck!”
Two days later, Harper’s mother, Hattie M. Sullivan, dropped another bombshell on her own Facebook page. “Now Everybody has congratulated me on Triston and Paris getting married but to me that is old news but now I’m bout to be a ‘G Ma,’” she wrote to accompany a selfie of the young couple posing with a positive pregnancy test.
One Facebook user congratulated the couple, writing, “This is not a roadblock, it’s a building block.Just another part of Triston Harper‘s story that he’ll be proud of. My parents were my heroes and Triston and paris will be the heroes for their child. Stay strong and keep moving forward together.”
What Else Has Triston Harper Been Up To?
Triston Harper has been hard at work on furthering his music career since concluding his American Idol journey in May. In a Nov. 5 Instagram post, he shared an original song he wrote called “When I Pray.”
This is just one of several original songs Harper has shared since leaving American Idol.
