The Doobie Brothers’ Anniversary Tour to Proceed Without Tom Johnston

Earlier this year, The Doobie Brothers announced an extension to their 50th Anniversary Tour. The 35-date trek cross-country trek would have marked the first time original members Michael McDonald, Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons, and John McFee hit the road together in 25 years.

However, a recent press release revealed Johnston will not be joining the band on the extensive leg. The frontman will be undergoing back surgery following severe back pain. Under doctors’ orders, he will not be traveling. McDonald, Simmons, and McFee will continue on in celebration of the band’s five-decade-long legacy.

“I hope for a speedy recovery and can’t wait to get back on the road and continue doing what I love,” Johnston shared in a statement. “I would like to thank Pat, Michael, John, and the entire Doobie Brothers band for covering for me while I recover from back surgery…I’m sure they will bring it every night as they always do.”
