Metro Boomin brought the stars out during his raucous set at Coachella on Friday (April 14). Along with welcoming associates Don Toliver, 21 Savage, Future, and Diddy to the stage, who all landed on his recent studio album Heroes & Villains, Metro facilitated a special guest performance for the festival attendees.

After hinting at doing so throughout last week, The Weeknd hit the stage at Coachella alongside Metro Boomin. Collaborating on “Creepin‘” from Metro’s aforementioned LP, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, the duo stunned fans as The Weeknd gave exhilarating performances of some classic hits of his.
First, he played three songs from his 2020 After Hours album that were all produced by Metro Boomin: “Faith,” “Escape from LA,” and “Heartless.” As “Heartless” faded out, Metro then transitioned to “Low Life,” Future’s 2016 track which features The Weeknd. With both of the song’s artists now on stage, they gave a joint performance of the top 20 Billboard hit.
Closing out his set alone on stage, The Weeknd delivered the first live performance of his currently unreleased song “Double Fantasy.” Teasing it twice last week on Instagram Live and Twitter, the song’s Even though it’s wrong hook and oh-woah refrain make for yet another beautifully harmonious Weeknd track.
While his Coachella set saw only him sing the track, though, his Instagram preview of the song from April 10 showed another verse from Future. It’s unclear if the solo or Future-assisted version will be the official release of “Double Fantasy,” but the cut is expected to be made available soon.
When previewing it on Twitter on April 12, The Weeknd also confirmed that “Double Fantasy” will be part of the soundtrack for his upcoming HBO series The Idol, which he created and stars in. The Idol is set to premiere at Cannes Film Festival this summer and drop on June 4, as its trailer is officially released on Monday (April 17).
Gearing up for an exciting next few months, The Weeknd’s Coachella stint appeared to be a perfect aid in an impending show and soundtrack rollout for the 33-year-old.
