The two hitmakers and Playboi Carti recently released “Popular,” a dance-pop track from HBO’s original series, The Idol. The playlist-worthy anthem also serves as the second preview to the highly anticipated soundtrack The Idol Vol. 1, which will be released on June 30.

According to People, the hitmaker previously caught up with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to discuss working alongside Madonna. The “Blinding Lights” singer revealed that he would like to write and produce an album with the living legend.

“I mean, the thing is, I’ve always wanted to work with her. I’ve always wanted to write and produce a Madonna album…well, co-produce with her, of course,” said The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye. “She’s a visionary, and she has such a singular vision.”

The hitmaker continued to manifest the project, as it has always been on his bucket list.

“I just want to come into her world and create a classic Madonna album,” he explained to Lowe. “That was always my dream. So this can be…hopefully, this is the appetizer for that.”

The icon is already on board with his plan. When the interview with Lowe was released, Madonna turned to social media to share The Weeknd’s collaborative idea.

She wrote, “Let’s Gooooooo!” over the pitch on her personal Instagram story.

The Weeknd also shared that he’s “proud” of their latest release “Popular,” as it has been in the works for quite some time.

“I’m proud of it. I’m definitely proud of it,” he said. “We’ve had a different version of this song prior. So I’ve had these vocals for a while, and I’ve kind of just worked around it, and then kept it in the tuck. But now, it felt like it was time.”

The Weeknd continued to elaborate on the recording process, “I’ve been producing the song for a while. And then Madonna, Madge. She’s the ultimate co-sign for this song, for this album, and for this TV show. And you’ll hear more of her in the show as well too. She is the ultimate pop star.”

Madonna is gearing up to release a single with Sam Smith titled “Vulgar” on June 9. Following the launch, she will embark on her world tour. Madonna: The Celebration Tour, will kick off on July 15 in Vancouver, Canada. The 35-city trek will honor her award-winning catalog and four decades in the music industry.
